Feb 2024 – A New Energy Centre for the Island of Sark – a Micro-grid design Case study

Infinite Renewables has been tasked to design a new Energy Centre on the Island of Sark in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

Infinite will provide a detailed design incorporating the best mix and capacity of wind, solar, battery storage and diesel generators to meet the current needs of the island’s population whilst also allowing for future growth in demand.

Sark is a self-governing Island of just 500 inhabitants, located 21 miles off the coast of France.

The design presents a number of challenges such as the logistics of bringing a wind turbine to an Island with no cars or lorries and a small harbour.

Once a decision has been made to move forward with a preferred design, the new grid and Energy Centre could be completed by the end of 2025.

Jan 2024 – Our first mobile wind turbine installation at Glastonbury 2023, allowing a turbine to go where the energy was needed

Infinite Renewables was approached by Octopus Energy Generation to project manage the temporary installation of the colourfully painted ‘Gusty Spinfield’ wind turbine at last year’s Glastonbury festival, it’s name voted for by Octopus Energy’s customers.

This energy model which included solar and battery, enabled the food stalls at the festival to be powered by renewable energy which had previously used diesel generators, a significant step for the events sustainability credentials.

Infinite as an Authorised supplier of Best Watt small scale turbines, organised delivery of the machine from Germany to the UK and designed the bespoke ballasted foundation allowing the install to happen in just six weeks. Infinite have since relocated Gusty Spinfield to Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage in Devon for the next leg of its energising journey.
